My realization for the day: Mid 80s PCs caught on, mid 90s was the web, mid 2000s was smartphones: next revolution is virtual reality
Other thoughts: I don't get people equating VR to 3d tvs. I wonder what will surprise those people more: the success of VR or how much they like it. Sports in vr? Will be awesome. Concerts? Awesome. Even A Ted talk, or storm footage of a hurricane or tornado, or any sandbox game or mmo – Prerry much guaranteed to be awesome. The feeling of being immersed in a new environment will be so revolutionary. 3d was a gimmick, but the fact that it was attempted so many times shows people want more than a 2d display. The technology is (just about) here. I guess I am a "fanboy" but even taking a step back – I see it's time for the next big thing after smartphones for "connecting" to the world. At vr (and/or Ar) is the only candidate.
